Top Ten Books I Read In 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish

I was planning to post a TT in anime and manga. But I realized that I barely read manga or watch anime this year mainly because of work.

Anyway, today's TTT topic is my top ten books that I really this year. It was difficult in choosing 10 out of my pile of books so I decided to choose the ones that I kept on reading even I go somewhere or while riding a jeepney or until there are tons of dog-eared pages.

...and here's my top ten in no particular order.

◘◘◘

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I love the cover especially the art and the color. I definitely love the story. I was weirded out by the romance portion though but this didn't deter me to love this book.

The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery

I do admit that the title got me to read this book. I never thought that hedgehogs are elegant. Cute yes, but elegant? No. But Renee made me fall for this book. I was frustrated that she died after she realized something.

Delusion in Death by J. D. Robb

Among the three(?), this was the best. The method of killing was unique and I was surprised when the suspect was revealed.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Tumblr got me to read this. It slightly reminded me of the movie The Book of Eli and The Book Thief. And this made me love books more.

Possession by A. S. Byatt

For me, the best romance I've read this year. And the best art cover as well.

Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman

The reason why I'm slowly appreciating sci-fi and fantasy. I like most of the stories especially The Problem of Susan (a sort-of extension of what happen to Susan of The Narnia series), A Study in Emerald and October in the Chair.

A Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George

The best among her books so far. Yes, the victim really deserved it.

Smilla's Sense of Snow by Peter Høeg

I like Smilla's determination to solve the death of her neighbor's son.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon

I like how the story unfold. It was all about the investigation on the dog's death at first. Then it went to Christopher's discovery that his mother is still alive.

The Forgotten Affairs of Youth by Alexander McCall Smith

Of course, my fave couple finally got married.

With that, I'm wishing you a blissful New Year to all!

  2. I love your list. I've read several of these (Hedgehog, 451) and have a few of the others on my shelves, waiting. Happy reading in 2014!
